Explore our monthly themes and engage spiritual discernment through the art of creative writing!
Writing is a long-loved path to personal insight, spiritual discernment and self-expression. By bringing the practice of writing to the exploration of our monthly themes, we hope to provide participants not only with another channel of self-discovery, but also with the gift of being witnessed in a new and precious way.
What You Get
The subscription comes with two packets per each of our 2021-22 monthly themes. So for each theme you get a Facilitator's Guide and a Participant Packet.
The Participant Packets includes personal warm up prompts and 4-5 writing exercises to choose from.
The Facilitator's Guide includes extra material to support their leadership of the group, such as center words, check in options, warm up activities, tips for running the sharing and discussion of the writing exercises and check out ideas.
Format and Approach
Groups can, of course, adapt the material as best fits their group culture, but the suggested structure involves participants picking one of the writing exercises and working on it in advance of the group meeting. In the meeting, the facilitator comes with a warm up exercise for participants to do in the group and then during the rest of the meeting, participants share the pieces they have written in response to the more involved writing exercises on the theme.
The best way to get a sense of the curriculum is to explore a Facilitator's Guide and Participant Packet directly. So here are the September packets on Embracing Possibility:
Our packets are co-created by Rev. Scott Tayler, our Team Lead, and Dr. Andrea Natalia Naranjo Erazo. Andrea runs a journaling group at the National Institutes of Health and teaches about health disparities and the responsible conduct of research. She is a member of the UU affiliated Washington Ethical Society.
For congregations under 150 members, the cost is $100 ($11 per month)
For congregations over 150 members, the cost is $140 ($140 per month)
