2020-21 Themes as Spiritual Practice Statements
 
A number of Soul Matters congregations frame our themes as spiritual practices, using wording similar to that below. We share our list for you to use and also with the hope that it inspires you as you develop ones of your own. 

If you do develop additional ones, we'd love for you to share them with us!


Theme                                   Practice Statement

Sept:  Renewal                The practice of remembering what we love.
                                                  The practice of allowing ourselves to be fed.
                                                  The practice of falling back in love with life.
 
Oct:  Deep Listening    The practice of allowing others’ stories to help us embrace our own.
                                                  The practice of living from the inside out.
                                                  The practice of hearing the lure of our better selves.
                                               
Nov:  Healing                   The practice of turning our pain into connection.
                                                  The practice of letting go of the life you wished for.
                                                  The practice of forgiving yourself for being imperfect.
                                                  The practice of moving beyond apology to repair.
 
Dec:  Stillness                  The practice of turning off voices that aren’t ours.
                                                  The practice of making space for deeper truth to speak.
                                                  The practice of finding peace.
                                                  The practice of living in the breath of the Divine.
 
Jan:  Imagination           The practice of waking up to possibility.
                                                  The healing practice of putting ourselves in other people’s shoes
                                                  The practice of completing the world by conjuring up its missing parts.
                                                  The practice of allowing hope to widen our view.
 
Feb:  Beloved Community   The practice of bending the arc of the universe toward justice.
                                                             The practice of recognizing inherent worth.
                                                             The practice of dismantling the structures that divide us.
                                                             The practice of transforming opponents into friends.
 
March:  Commitment            The practice of being loyal to something larger than yourself.
                                                             The practice of loving even when it is hard.
                                                             The practice of making, breaking and re-making our promises.
 
April:  Becoming            The practice of discovering that inside you which wants to be born.
                                                  The practice of no longer hiding.
                                                  The practice of continual growth.
 
May:  Story                        The practice of living by narratives of our own making.
                                                  The practice of reclaiming memory and re-membering ourselves.
 
June:  Play                          The practice of remembering we can write our own rules.
                                                  The practice of using escape to restore our freedom.
                                                  The practice of returning to joy.
