Wheel of the Year Series

Wheel of the Year

An Earth-Centered, All-Ages Worship Resource

The seasons have always been among our greatest spiritual teachers. The "Wheel of the Year" (an earth-centered, neo-pagan calendar of eight season-based festivals) invites us to slow down, pay attention to the rhythms of the earth, and explore how the cycles of nature - growth, harvest, rest, loss, and renewal - mirror the cycles of our own lives.

We've created our own "Wheel of the Year" eight-part packet series to help congregations explore and celebrate these seasonal festivals. Imagined and designed by the Soul Matters Faith Formation Team—April Rosario, Liv Radue, and Sara Lewis—this packet series offers flexible resources for creating all-ages worship and rituals.

Each packet focuses on one of the Eight Earth-Centered Sabbats: Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lughnasadh/Lammas, Mabon, & Samhain. These seasonal turnings engages us with such questions as: What is beginning in my life? What am I harvesting? What am I being called to release? Where is hope taking root?

This Wheel of the Year series also offers a meaningful way to explore our connection to the natural world and our shared value of interdependence.

Rather than providing a single script, these packets are designed with what we call a "toolbox approach," with all the material being able to be adapted, mixed, and matched to fit your congregation, worship style, and community. This toolbox structure includes worship and ritual elements such as:

Chalice lightings
Stories and wisdom tales
Rituals and interactive worship experiences
Responsive readings
Blessings and meditations
Reflection prompts
Family and all-ages spiritual practices

Additionally, every subscription comes with a graphics package to help you advertise this series in your newsletters, orders of service, worship screens or webpages. This graphics package includes a wide variety of graphics to choose from. You can check out those graphics HERE.

Whether your congregation is new to earth-centered spirituality or already celebrates the seasonal cycle, our Wheel of the Year Resources Packets provide accessible, creative resources for bringing these ancient seasonal rhythms into contemporary UU worship.
