Video Storytelling Workshops

Beginner & Advanced Workshop Journeys
Offered
Wednesday, October 6 to Saturday, October 16  (101)
&
Wednesday, November 10 to Saturday, November, 20. (201)

When we bring stories to life, they - in return - bring us to life!

These beginner and advanced 11-day workshop journeys enable you to tell, explore, honor and share your stories in a new and deeper way.  You will learn the skills of
video storytelling and use them to bring a personal story or creative reflection to life, all along side a small and trusted community of fellow creatives sharing the gifts of inspiration, accountability, support and witness.

The structure of our
beginner ("101") and advanced ("201") workshops are the same, with the main difference involving the level of technique that is taught. Additionally the 101 workshop focuses primarily on exploring and sharing a personal story, whereas the advanced 201 workshop makes space for other types of storytelling, such as animating a poem, honoring the impact of a loved one or creating a visual video meditation for your congregation to use in worship.

Minimal equipment needed: You need access to a computer (Apple or PC), a cell phone that can take pictures. To avoid extra cost, we will use a video editing program called WeVideo that allows for 14 day free use.

Here's what happens over the 11 days:
  • A Wednesday evening, one-hour orientation and meet & greet
  • A Thursday tech-overview covering the basics of movie editing and other questions you might be afraid to ask.
  • Friday: No meetings. Use it to gather materials and prep.
  • A 3-hour Saturday start up workshop helping you identify what story you want to tell and why. Done in a very supportive small group atmosphere using Soul Matters deep listening and sharing techniques.
  • Sunday: Afternoon group check in followed by individual one-on-ones with the trainers.
  • Weekday period: On-going support through hands-on, one-on-one personalized tutorials with our trainers to help you with the skills and spiritual reflection that goes into creating your video story.  A private Facebook learning community/ group for participants to stay in touch, share progress and ask for help throughout the week.
  • Another Saturday "final touches" workshop to help with loose end technical work and to offer mutual feedback and support
  • A final Saturday (same day) evening   celebration and closing session to share reflections about the personal learnings that arose during the process and to share our final videos with each other.
